The Perfect Omelet

FINALLY! I did it! I made a successful omelet. Not just successful, but PERFECT. Actually, I made two! I was recently feeling very incomplete because I couldn’t make omelets. I don’t crave them. It’s not like I really even want to eat them. But, it just seems like one of those basic things I should be able to cook. Every time I’ve gotten the whim to try, I end up with burnt outsides, runny insides, scrambled eggs, or the omelet somehow morphed into a frittata.

When we were visiting my mom at Christmas, it fell in my charge to make breakfast. We had the makings of an omelet, but I knew my past attempts always ended in a scrambled failure. We threw some peppers, onions, ham, etc. on an electric griddle and cracked some eggs over. From there, I was hands off and called Travis to the rescue. What we ended up with wasn’t an omelet, at least not like one I’ve ever seen.  Then, we visited Travis’s family. His brother doesn’t really cook much. At least, I don’t think he does. But, he can make omelets! It felt like a sign. That’s it. I made a pre-New Year’s resolution. I WILL make one or die trying. With a little research on You Tube, I found my method. Perhaps serious chefs would consider this method cheating. I’m no chef, so I went for it, and … SWEET SUCCESS WAS MINE!  I used 2 separate pans and made omelets for Travis and I. They were delicious and…they tasted just like frittatas.

  1. Bravo! I'm glad you posted this. It will remind me to try it myself. I can't wait! Actually, any cooking tutorials by you would probably benefit me. ;-) But would you mind not taking such darn delicious-looking pictures? They make me hungry.
